Law Enforcement Guidelines

This page provides guidance for law enforcement agencies seeking information from Eclipse Veil. We are committed to protecting user privacy while complying with valid legal processes.
1. Important Notice: Zero-Knowledge Architecture
Eclipse Veil operates on a zero-knowledge encryption model.
This means:
- All user content (messages, files, media) is encrypted client-side before transmission
- Encryption keys are generated and stored only on user devices
- Eclipse Veil does not have access to decryption keys
- We cannot provide decrypted content, even with a valid court order
2. What Information May Be Available
Subject to valid legal process, Eclipse Veil may be able to provide limited information:
Account Information (if available)
- Username/handle
- Email address (if provided during registration)
- Account creation date
- Last login timestamp
- Subscription status
Limited Metadata (if retained)
- IP addresses used to access the service (subject to retention policies)
- Device information
- Timestamps of activity
What We Cannot Provide
- Message contents (encrypted, we have no keys)
- File contents (encrypted, we have no keys)
- Decryption keys
- Plaintext passwords
3. Legal Process Requirements
United States
- Subpoena: Required for basic subscriber information
- Court Order (18 U.S.C. 2703(d)): Required for metadata and logs
- Search Warrant: Required for content (though content is encrypted and inaccessible)
International Requests
International law enforcement requests must be submitted through:
- Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) process
- Letters rogatory
- Other formal international legal cooperation mechanisms
4. Submitting Requests
All law enforcement requests must be sent to:
Requests must include:
- Official letterhead
- Valid legal process documentation
- Specific account identifiers (username, email)
- Description of information sought
- Contact information for the requesting officer
- Relevant case number
5. Emergency Requests
In emergency situations involving imminent threat to life or serious physical injury, Eclipse Veil may disclose available information without delay.
Emergency requests should:
- Be sent from an official law enforcement email domain
- Clearly identify the nature of the emergency
- Include a statement that formal legal process will follow
- Be sent to legal@eclipseveil.pro with "EMERGENCY" in the subject line
6. User Notification
Eclipse Veil's policy is to notify users of law enforcement requests unless:
- Prohibited by law or court order
- Notification would jeopardize an investigation
- There is an emergency involving danger to life
When legally permitted, we will notify users after a gag order expires.
7. Preservation Requests
Law enforcement may request preservation of account records for up to 90 days pending the issuance of formal legal process. Preservation requests must:
- Be submitted in writing on official letterhead
- Identify the specific accounts to preserve
- Include the investigation reference
8. Response Time
- Emergency requests: Responded to as quickly as possible
- Standard requests: Typically 10-14 business days
- Complex requests: May require additional time
9. Costs
Eclipse Veil reserves the right to seek reimbursement for costs associated with responding to legal process, as permitted by law.
